Keeping your kids healthy

We all know how difficult it can be sometimes to get our kids to eat their vegetables and clean their plate at meal times, unless it is fish fingers and fries. One of the hardest things is to get your kids eating a nutritious breakfast to kick start their day. So many adverts are encouraging children to eat sugar packed cereals, which simply contain puffed rice, coloring and sugar. What they need is a breakfast full of vitamins, nutrients and something which will keep them fuller for longer.

Moms always seem to be busy, whether it is cooking, cleaning or acting as a taxi service for the kids. This blog post aims to save you time browsing through dozens of breakfast ideas for your kids, which will give you more time to do other things, whether it is seeing what credit card rewards you can get through sites like, or relaxing and watching your favorite soap opera with a cup of tea. Here are just a few inventive and nutritious breakfast ideas.

Weekday breakfasts – If your kids love chocolate, then chocolate porridge and banana and chocolate smoothies are a way for them to still enjoy their favorite treat as well as getting nutrients. In a blender, combine a small banana, a splash of milk and two spoons of cocoa powder. Once it has blended it will look like a thick chocolate shake which is sure to go down a treat. Chocolate porridge is easy to make; simply add a couple of spoons of cocoa powder or Nutella in with the mixture. Another quick breakfast idea for those rushed mornings before school, is breakfast muffins. These are ideal to bake on a Sunday night and will last throughout the week. Instead of chocolate chips, use fresh blueberries and strawberries, substitute butter for low fat margarine and replace full fat milk with skimmed.

Weekend Treats – Why not treat the kids to a ham, mushroom and tomato omelet on the weekend? Substitute some of the eggs for just egg whites and fry on a non-stick pan. Simply fold in the chopped mushroom and ham pieces, then fold to form an omelet. This breakfast is full of protein and calcium.
