3 Exercise Tips for Work-At-Home Moms

The boom of the internet has seen more and more moms finally leave their 9-5 jobs that they were so unhappy with and become their own boss by working from home. With the internet being a tool that can help connect people from all over the world, it’s no surprise so many people are turning to the world of online to generate their income and make money from a hobby or passion that they already enjoy. Although you have to maintain a certain level of self-discipline to work from home, it can be done and the luxury of choosing your own working hours and not having anyone else to answer to can be very liberating. And of course the best thing about it is that you get to spend more quality time with your family. However, not having to walk or cycle to work can mean a missed opportunity when it comes to exercise. Here are three exercise tips to help you lose weight and get fit without having to leave your home. Start 2012 as you mean to go on and get exercising!

First up, if you are a complete beginner and you’re not too sure what it is you want to do in terms of exercising, get yourself a workout DVD. You don’t have to buy the latest one for a top price only to find out it’s not an exercise routine you enjoy. Why not first rent a few from your local library. You may find that despite the fact you always thought you’re an excellent dancer, the Samba workout just isn’t for you. Once you find the exercise type you like, you can then head to an online auction site and buy a workout DVD for a lot less. As well as the type of exercise you are looking for, it’s also a good idea to look at the length of the workouts. You may find you don’t have an hour spare every morning to work out and you might find it a lot easier to stick to if you just do a 20 minute workout during your lunch break.

If you’re job involves sitting at a computer all day you may be prone to headaches and eyesight problems. If you were working at a PC in an office, chances are they will have health and safety rules for lighting, equipment and desk space. When working from you will probably have less room than your average office and the conditions aren’t likely to live up to the standard of an office. So a great tip to stretch your legs and get away from the desk for a few minutes could be by doing a different exercise on the hour three or four times a day. For example at 11am you could run up and down the stairs a set number of times, at lunch you could do some free weights and maybe at about 4pm when your energy is starting to dwindle, a few star jumps or lunges will help get the blood pumping round your body.

When you’re waiting for a huge file to download or if you’re reading something, you probably won’t be doing much with your arms, so this is the perfect time to stretch. Start with your wrists and work your way up your arms to your head and neck. Then if you’ve still got time, why not stand up and stretch your legs and back too. Sitting in a chair all day is not ideal and you can get a sore back from a bad posture. Occasional stretches will make you think a little more about your posture and make you relax your muscles.

There are plenty more tips you can carry out to help you keep fit but the great thing is, you are in your own home so nobody thinks you’re the crazy lady who does ab crunches while reading her emails and sprints to the toilet instead of walking. You’re in your home so you don’t have to worry about looking silly. The most important thing is to make sure you include exercise as part of your routine. You’ll soon start to notice the difference while will only spur you on some more.
