Betty Crocker Loaded Mashed Potatoes {review & giveaway} CLOSED

When I think about mashed potatoes peelings, cutting and boiling comes to mind. My kids love mashed potatoes and we eat them often. Sometimes with gravy and other times in meals.

The thought of boxed mashed potatoes just did not even cross my mind. I was raised with everything being done by hand and convenient foods were just a no-no. As I became an adult I cooked just like my mother did. We did not used boxed foods and everything took forever to make which kept me in the kitchen half the day. Over the years I have used some “quick meal items” or “instant” foods and have loved how fast they are to prepare. But, I would have never even tried instant mashed potatoes if I had not been given the opportunity by MyBlogSpark and BettyCrocker.

I agreed to review the new Betty Crocker Loaded Mashed Potatoes because I am always looking for ways to save my cooking time.

{Some Quick Info}

The Betty Crocker Loaded Mashed Potatoes are made from 100% real russet potatoes and seasonings. The boxed potatoes are seasoned with naturally flavored bacon, cheese, chives and sour cream.

{My Thoughts}

  • Are they really easy to prepare?

These instant potatoes are very quick to prepare. Some boiling water and a whisk will have your potatoes on the table in no time.

  • Taste/Flavor

The finished product was thick and fluffy, actually pretty close to the consistency of a real mashed potatoes. I was surprised as I really thought it would turn out like a soft mess but they were nice and thick. I think if you use to much water they will be runny in texture, so you need to make sure you measure properly.

My kids like some chunks in their mashes potatoes and there are no chunks in the Betty Crocker Loaded Mashed Potatoes, so if your a chunk lover, you will be disappointed. I personally do not care for the chunky potatoes and only make them because I know the kids love them. The texture of the prepared potatoes were fine for me.

The flavor was upsetting to me. After learning the Loaded Mashed Potatoes were loaded with bacon, cheese, chives and sour cream flavors I was expecting a bold flavor. You can definitely taste a cheese and bacon flavor but I could not taste any sour cream or chive. The cheese is a strong flavor in these instant potatoes but I feel like the sour cream and chive flavors were missing.

  • Final Thoughts

My children loved these mashed potatoes (even without the chunks) and ate them before anything else, so they were a hit with the kids. I’m not sure they could even tell a difference. However, I personally found them to have a “boxed” taste and I would much rather my homemade mashed potatoes.

Have you tried the new Better Crocker Loaded Mashed Potatoes? Or do you use an instant mashed potato now? If so, you’re in luck! Betty Crocker is offering one of my readers a box of the new Loaded Mashed Potatoes with a prize pack!
