Cars 2 Was Not What I Expected

My kids have been driving us crazy to see Cars 2 since seeing the previews on TV. To be honest, I’ve even been excited to see it. I really enjoyed the 1st Cars movie by Pixar and so did my children.

So today we set out to see Cars 2. My excited 3 year old had on his Mater t-shirt and his favorite Cars sandals as we entered the movie theater. $62 later we had our movie tickets, 1 large pop and 1 medium popcorn.

It did not take but a few minutes of the movie playing for me to realize this was just not going to be as good. I really hopped the movie would be better than the 1st, but it was not.  The animation was pretty good, actually really good but the store-line was not there for me. The movie was not horrible, just not what I was hoping for.

Mater seems to be the main focus of the Cars 2 film and McQueen is in the backseat with this one. Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) got most of the screen time with some humor small kids will not understand. There were several instances when my 3 and 5 year old just looked in space as if they had no clue what was going on. About half-way into the movie my 3 year old was ready to go. He kept saying ” this is not my cars”.

Cars 2 just did not compare to the 1st one and did not seem to have been made for the same age group as the 1st.  This seems to be the trend when movies release a sequel in my opinion. I have watched the 1st Cars with my kids at least 50 times and still enjoy watching it. It saddens me to say that I should have saved my $60 bucks and bought it on DVD.

About The Shopping Mom

  1. My boys were also very excited to see this. We saw it at the drive in last night for $16. So, our loss was cheaper. Neither one liked it and my three year old (a cars fan) also asked to go him half way through. We stuck it out and he ended up falling asleep five minutes later. Definitely not a good movie. My five year old enjoyed the secret agent line. But, just wasn’t into it. Sorry, but McQueen was the lovable character and this time it just lagged. They wanted to play games on my iPhone it was so bad. And, what is up with pixar and the whole death theme we saw in toy story with Bo peep gone and here with doc gone. They are small kids who don’t really get that, just where is doc? Where is the cast we love? Damone got what two lines? So sad 🙁

Yeah I was not real happy about Doc either. I loved him. Kids do not understand that and I don’t understand why they would even add something like that to a kids movie.

  2. I have to say that for the most part I could of wrote your post right down to the ages of the children too!! Although my 5 yr old enjoyed it tremendously as well as my husband. I think sometimes movies are better the 2nd time around..or atleast I hope it will be. 😀

Hi Tracia, Yeah my hubby enjoyed it, but he even said he liked the 1st one better.

  3. $62?!!??!? Cough, sputter!!!! We’ve been anticipating this show too, and even went to go see it Fri., but my little one fell asleep in the car on the way, so we opted to wait until later (knowing he’d sleep through it all). Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. 🙂 Thanks for the review.

Oh man, I am so sad to hear that. We were going to wait a couple of weeks until the crowds calmed down to see this movie, but the reviews are horrible! Everyone is saying exactly what you are saying. I hate when a movie with great potential comes out only to drop the ball. I love, love, love the original, but I not spending money to see this in the theaters now. I will wait till it hits redbox.

  5. My 4 year old really wants to see this movie too, but I’ve only heard bad reviews also. Thanks for sharing your review. Maybe we’ll just wait until it comes out on DVD to watch it.

  6. Thank you for the review! :]
