“Chase Away The Sun” Sun Shade {Review}

I’ve had the pleasure of trying out a new sun shade developed for those kiddos riding in the backseat. It’s called Chase Away The Sun and it’s a little different then the ones you stick on the side windows. Those are very effective, but this shade tackles a different angle…sun coming in from the front windshield.

I was interested in testing out this product because I often drive around with my three-year-old babe in the backseat. We live in sunny Colorado, so a sun glare hitting my son from the windshield is not uncommon. Kelli, the owner of  Chase Away The Sun sent me a shade with fun shark print material to try.

The concept is simple, you put two  straps around the headrest of your front car seats (they velcro together), then attached the triangle shaped shade by velcro to the straps.

You have to be careful to pick the right size of shade. The first one I received didn’t quite reach across my headrests. I have a Ford Escape so I just needed a larger size. There’s a cool sizing chart on the company’s website you can be sure and get the right size. You can choose between small, medium and  large – which really has to do with the length between the seats in your car. Turns out I needed a medium.

Once I got the shade in place, I took my babe out for a spin to try it out. It’s a tad awkward at first simply because the shade blocks the view between you and your child (I could still see him in the rear view mirror), but my son didn’t have any problem with it. He actually loved looking at the sharks in the material and enjoyed having some “privacy” I think!

The other concern I had was him not being able to see out the front window. He loves to watch the street light turn colors, so when we got to a light I asked him if he could see the light with the shade up and he said yes.

So far, so good. And it didn’t block my view out of my rear-view mirror, which is important.

Everywhere we drove, the light typically was coming in from another angle, but when we were driving towards the sun it did seem to shield him from the glare in his little eyes. When I took it down, my son said “Mommy, put the shade back up!”. He’s definitely sold!

Overall, I think it’s a great, low-maintenance product to help protect your baby from the sun. You can pick from a number of fun fabric designs such as robot prints, flowers, sharks and frogs, etc. The shades are machine  washable (for times when food goes flying in the car) and it’s easy to fold and pack into the glove box for easy storage.

If you’re in the car a lot, or take an occasional road trip, then this is a great product to have on hand to keep your little one comfy and glare free.

Each shade is $19.95, or you can buy 2 for $14.95  each.

The shades can be purchased online at ChaseAwaytheSun.com.
