When buying anything for our child we want what’s safe, highly rated, and what’s going to do the best job. When it comes time to buy our child’s car seat, whether their first infant seat, or their last car seat being a booster, this is extremely true! We need to look out for our children’s safety at all times, and especially when they’re riding in the car with us.

If you plan on buying a car seat in the near future, here are some things you might want to look out for.

Requirements: Always make sure your child meets the requirements for that particular car seat. All seats have a height, weight and age limit on their seats. If your child is too big or too small, you need to continue shopping for the perfect fit car seat.

Ratings: When buying anything, I think it’s very important to look over the ratings. Websites like Amazon are great for this! Let’s say you’re deciding between two car seats, one has 300 ratings and a 3.0/5.0 star, the second one has 200 ratings and a 4.5/5.0. I think it’s obvious that you should go with the higher rated one. This is a great way to get an idea of what parents who have had and used this product think about it.

Reputation: Take a look at the brand you’re buying and their reputation. Do they have a good one or bad one? Are they known for having a lot of recalls in the past? It’s always important to take a good look at this and go with a reputable company!

Features: What kind of features are you getting for your money? Does it have convenient cup holders for snacks and drinks, the LATCH system, a 5 point harness, or other great features? These can make the world of a difference!

Cost: Always make sure you look at the cost of the car seat and compare it with others. You may find that one car seat is $300, and there is another one similar but a different brand for $150. Just because one’s more expensive does not mean it’s any better!

There is a lot to look out for when shopping for a car seat. Although, when it comes down to it, you want what’s safe, reliable and what has great ratings!
