If you want to get your children interested in gardening there are lots of products on the market which can help spark their interest. Sometimes the prospect of digging and planting isn’t enough to entice children into the garden, so it can really help to have some exciting items to get them started in the garden.
Gardening can be not only very fun for children but an education experience as well. Growing flowers or veggies, both introduce color, science and responsibility, all in which kids should learn.
Here are a few ideas for products to help introduce gardening in a fun way, submitted by Vanessa from ArtScape Garden Design!
A brightly colored tool set is a good place to start. The bright colors make the tools look more exciting than adult tools, and their smaller size means children can easily handle them. Often these tools come with handles in the shape of animals which can make them seem even more appealing and fun. Leaps and Bounds has a gardening set that includes a metal watering can, cotton jersey gloves, spade, shovel, and rake. Each designed with wooden handles and metal heads, so these tools will last for years. The set is $19.95 on their site.
There are lots of growing kits aimed at children currently on the market. These kits make gardening so simple a child could do it with little to no adult supervision. They include everything needed to grow a plant including pots, seeds, compost, labels and instructions. For extra fun there are lots of cress seed growing kits which enable children to grow cress out of all sorts of strange containers, including ones shaped like a head so that when the cress grows it looks like hair.
Kids often like to look the part, and there are lots of children’s gardening clothes available to help them feel like a proper gardener. Garden aprons for children come in lots of different colours and designs, with some designed with boys in mind and others with girls. Children’s gardening gloves are also widely available and are a very useful item for protecting children’s hands from stings and scrapes.
