Samsung Galaxy 3D vs LG Optimus 3D

Samsung Galaxy 3D

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has enjoyed record success, with consumers raving about its high end technology and array of features. In many respects, the only thing that could improve what many believe to be the perfect tablet is the addition of 3D.

Rumors have speculated that Samsung may introduce the Galaxy 3D in the near future. In light of this news, we’ve decided to take the preliminary information and compare it to another quality 3D smartphone, the LG Optimus 3D.

Dimensions and Form
• LG Optimus 3D – 128.8 x 68 x 11.9 mm, 168g
• Samsung Galaxy 3D – Unreleased

The Galaxy 3D is reportedly similar in style and aesthetics to the popular Galaxy S2, although its likely the device will be thicker due to the added hardware. As with most Samsung devices, the chassis should still be light, however, given the plastics employed in every build.

The LG Optimus 3D, on the other hand, has a strong build weighing in at 168 grams, made of top quality metals for a premium look and feel.

Display Screen
• LG Optimus 3D – 4.3 inch 3D (parallax barrier) LCD capacitive screen at 480 x 800 pixel resolution
• Samsung Galaxy 3D – 4.3-inch capacitive screen at 480 x 800 pixel resolution

LG Optimus 3D

The LG Optimus 3D is fitted with a gorgeous 4.3 inch parallax barrier capacitive screen which has a resolution of 480 x 800. Not only is the screen responsive, but it provides excellent clarity. Speculation on the Galaxy 3D has the device with a similar screen at an identical resolution.

Processing Power
• LG Optimus 3D – 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip with PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 512MB RAM
• Samsung Galaxy 3D – 1.2GHz dual core processor on the Exynos chipset, Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB RAM

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is powered by a dual-core Exynos processor, and its cousin the Galaxy S2 is rumored to have the same. The LG Optimus 3D, unfortunately, falls just a little short. Despite being powered by a 1GHz dual core processor and PowerVR SGX540 GPU, the 512MB RAM is only half the memory purportedly offered by the Galaxy 3D and is barely adequate for a high end device.

Operating System
• LG Optimus 3D – Android 2.3 Gingerbread
• Samsung Galaxy 3D -Android 2.3 Gingerbread

With the recent upgrade from 2.2 Froyo to Gingerbread the LG Optimus 3D and the Galaxy 3D will both run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The only discernible difference between the two products will be the overlaying user interface.

The LG Optimus skin is visually nice, but runs into a few performance issues despite only minimal pressure as a result of its paltry 512MB RAM. The Samsung TouchWiz 4.0 is capable and should have no problems running with the Galaxy 3D’s advanced hardware.

Camera
• LG Optimus 3D – Two 5 MP primary cameras
• Samsung Galaxy 3D – Two 8 MP primary cameras

The LG Optimus 3D has dual 5-megapixel primary cameras that can perform both stereoscopic image capture and 3D video capture up to 720p. It also includes LED flash, geo-tagging, and 1080p video capture at 2D. The Samsung Galaxy 3D will likely feature the same amenities but powered by two 8 megapixel cameras, giving it a slight advantage over the LG.

Conclusion
For those looking to try out 3D technology, the LG Optimus 3D is an excellent device. As there has yet to be any confirmation regarding the Galaxy 3D, there is no guarantee the device will hit shelves anytime soon.
